CobaltStrike Redirector with Nginx

Hallo Friends…

Today, I going to write a very simple Cobaltstrike redirector with Nginx which will help you to hide your C2 server from being spotted during the campaign and very easy to spawn new C2 communication after your server has been spotted

Redirector

Why this is important that we need a redirector infront of our Team Server. It is not a safe for the campaign to publish directly the team server IP on the internet. It is easier to be spotted by the internet scanner and the blue team. If you use cloud then they might shutdown your C2 infrastructure if they notice you are hosting C2 server

So the idea is to put your team server behind NGINX so that who ever visit your domain it will be redirected to a web page that is not suspicious, however, If you visit a specific file or path then you will be redirected to C2 server.

If I visited the domain (rioasmara.com) that I use to host the C2 server would be like below screen capture. The site looks non supicious as it show a normal web page.

However, If I visited an URL with the path https://rioasmara.com/rioasmara* will be redirected to cobaltstrike C2 server.

NGINX Setup

After you have done the basic installation of the NGINX then you can start configuring. The default configuration file would be found in /etc/nginx/sites-enabled/default

If you notice that all http reques made by the beacon either https://rioasmara.com/rioasmara-gettask.html or https://rioasmara.com/rioasmara-postresult.html to be redirected to the Cobalt teamserver listener on http://192.168.1.27:9091

CobaltStrike Profile

We have to adjust our cobaltstrike profile in order to work with the NGINX configuration above. I modified the javascript profile and simplify the configuration so that just the essential part is left.

We can see from the above configuration that everytime beacon wants to get the task then it will call HTTP GET to https://rioasmara.com/rioasmara-gettask.html. If the beacon wants to post the result then it will call HTTP POST https://rioasmara.com/rioasmara-postresult.html

CobaltStrike Listener

As I use local hosted rioasmara.com domain in my lab so that I have to adjust the listener as below so that the beacon will be able to communicate with the team server.

The port bind must match with the NGINX configuration below
